I’m spilling the beans, and telling you the dirty truth! For years my oatmeal came out of a box in individual packets. Yup… guilty as charged. Even had a personal favourite = peaches and cream, but not anymore! I have a couple reasons for breaking up with boxed oatmeal. Reason #1: after watching a freaky video that is currently being reposted on Facebook like cray-cray (do people still say that?) The video was of a family going through their everyday morning routine. It showed just how much sugar the average household is consuming just in the morning alone! I know, I know, you shouldn’t always believe what you see on the ole’ internet, but this video really opened up my eyes to be even more aware of what is in the food that I am eating, and I don’t think that is a bad thing. Reason #2: making your own oatmeal is super easy, super duper delicious, super cheap to make (most definitely cheaper than the boxed oatmeal), and you can control what is going in it!! So, for those reasons I said “bye-bye-bye” like N’sync to boxed oatmeal, and decided to try making homemade oatmeal for the first time today, and guess what guys?! It is ridic how EASY, and fun it is to create yummy healthier oatmeal. Another fun factor with making your own oatmeal is that you can make up flavours that the boxed stuff doesn’t offer.Like this one!! For my first homemade oatmeal I made it a strawberry coconut flavour, and holy yum what have I been doing for all these years?! Seriously, the boxed stuff can’t touch how good this is!
Can you see why ever since making this oatmeal all I have been wanting to have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is this?! It is seriously so YUM I can’t get in my TUM fast enough!!
I’m going to gush over one more benefit, and then hop to sharing this recipe with you because I’m getting hungry hehe! So, here it is another pro to making your own is the texture difference. I didn’t really put much thought into this before until making my own and noticing just how mushy those packet oatmeals really are. Homemade oatmeal has a nice texture to it, which I find enhances the oats yumminess with every bite! This recipe makes enough for 1 hungry adult, but you can easily double or triple the recipe to feed the amount of hungry mouth’s you need to feed! Hope you enjoy this healthier, yummier, oatmeal-ier recipe. It really is the most perfect way to start the day. Enjoy!
PS. Have you tried any of my recipes? If so, thank you so much for inviting me into your kitchen! I would love to hear some feedback if you have the time to leave me a little note!
